The Scratching Post Cat Hospital is a full-service veterinary practice devoted exclusively to cats. At the Scratching Post Cat Hospital, we are dedicated to providing comprehensive, high-quality care to enhance the well-being and quality of life of every patient. We schedule longer appointments which allows our veterinarians to do a thorough exam in a calm, unhurried and compassionate atmosphere. It is our goal to educate and involve each client in a lifetime care plan for their cat.

OUR STORY

The Scratching Post Cat Hospital and Retreat was established by Dr. Andrew Summers and his family in Aug. 2002, in a small block building at 963 E. Franklin St., near the corner of E. Franklin and Clyo Rd in Centerville, OH. Their intention was to operate a cat only practice where the pace is slower and gentler than the typical high-volume veterinary clinics.

In 2006 the Summers’ family purchased and renovated a building at 133 W. Franklin St. and relocated Scratching Post there in 2007. The renovation included three exam rooms, a surgery suite, lab, treatment area, and a dedicated boarding area.

The Scratching Post operated as a single doctor practice for 19 years until Dr. Sara Wells joined the team in 2021. Dr. Wells, a Centerville native who had driven by The Scratching Post thousands of times, had always dreamed of working exclusively with cats at The Scratching Post.

Dr. Wells and her family graciously accepted an offer to purchase The Scratching Post, and in March of 2023 became the new owners. They are honored to carry on the legacy of the Scratching Post as a family-owned business and remain committed to a more personable and slower paced atmosphere that has been the foundation for the practice.

Dr. Sara Wells

Hi, I’m Sara. I developed an admiration for cats after adopting a neighborhood cat when I was young. I decided to become a veterinarian because I wanted to make a positive impact on the lives of both people and animals (mostly cats ).

I grew up in Centerville and graduated from Centerville High School, earned my undergraduate degree from the University of Findley, and my Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Ross University in 2004 - spending my clinical year at Texas A&M School of Veterinary Medicine where I was able to take an elective rotation focusing on feline internal medicine. Gentle handling techniques to make visits less stressful for fearful feline patients are very important to me. I enjoy getting to know my patient’s owners and educating them on all thing’s cats.

I live in Centerville with two cats, Pumpkin and IVY; two dogs, Snicker and Skyy; a bunny, named Oreo, daughter Rainey, and my husband Ryan. I like to travel, read, paint, cross-stitch, and spend time with my family and friends.

Hi I’m Andy. Some of you may remember me from the beginning of the Scratching Post which I started together, decades ago, with my wife and newborn son. We’ve come a long way. I am proud that the Scratching Post remains a family-owned and loved business and I look forward to many more years of serving you as a staff veterinarian. Thank you for so many years of support!

I'm Allie, Office Manager of The Scratching Post Cat Hospital, where cats and their well-being is our top priority! With a decade of experience in feline care, I ensure our hospital runs smoothly, providing exceptional care and comfort to our whiskered patients. I started here as a vet assistant and have worked my way up to manager. My passion for feline health started with a bachelor’s degree in biology, guiding me to this specialized world of cat care. Outside of work I’m married to my husband Caleb, and we have two kiddos, Reuben and Lydia. We also have four cats of our own, Lemon, Harriet, Holly and Juniper. When I'm not at The Scratching Post Cat Hospital, you'll likely find me curled up with a good book or cross-stitching. Whether I'm managing our cat-centric clinic, cherishing moments with my family, or indulging in hobbies, my mission remains the same: to make a positive impact with boundless compassion and unwavering dedication.

Amanda

Hi there, I'm Amanda! A registered Vet Tech dedicated to feline care at the Scratching Post since 2012. I provide compassionate care with a nurturing touch to our furry friends. Beyond work, I find solace in nature, grooving to live music, immersing myself in video games, and exploring my interest in dinosaurs. You'll also find me cuddling with my two fur babies, Kiki and Patty, and spending time with my loved ones. I'll always provide the best care to our patients and strive to improve where I can.

Alyssa

Hello! My name is Alyssa! Since April of 2023, I've been working as a Veterinary Assistant at The Scratching Post Cat Hospital. Before joining this wonderful team, I was focused on my studies as a full-time college student. In the spring of 2023, I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Biology. My journey into veterinary medicine has been extremely rewarding thus far. As I continue to grow in my role, my aspirations include furthering my knowledge of veterinary medicine and enhancing my ability to provide compassion and care to cats in need. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family. Whether we're traveling to new places or simply enjoying each other's company. One of my favorite hobbies is collecting shot glasses from the places that I visit as a reminder of the memories that were made. I have one fur babies at home, Rosie, who brings joy and laughter into my life with her goofy personality.

Kailey

Hi! My name is Kailey. I have been with the Scratching Post since July of 2023. I went to MVCTC for Veterinary Science, where my passion for animals really took off. I hope to further my education and explore more into wildlife rehabilitation. In my free time I like to draw, hike, collect sea glass or rocks, and play video games with my friends and girlfriend, Riley. I have 3 cats at home; Kyle, Penny, and Gus! In addition to my furry friends, I also love reptiles. I have a crested gecko named Nyx who I have had since 8th grade, and a gecko I took in who was born with a spinal deformity named Freddie. I have love for all things wild and wonderful!
